People involved with 9/11

George W. Bush

After the towers were hit, Bush felt sorry for what had happened. He showed sympathy to the families and friends of the people who died. He said that these terrorists could destroy buildings, but they could never destroy what America is about. Bush immediately started looking for who had done this horrible attack. Bush’s first priority was to make sure that the citizens were now safe. He then condemned the attackers and the attacks. Bush gathered the US allies to help find who had attacked us. The US tried to bring peace after this terrible time.

Mohammed Atta

Mohammed Atta was believed to be the first plane pilot that crashed into the World Trade Center. He was a radical Muslim that thought his religion was more than just a religion. In July 2000, he spent six months earning his pilot license. In January 2001, he went to Germany to give a progress report to an al-Qaida official. While there he got his instructions for 9/11. Atta took several flights to Las Vegas leading up to the attack. Atta departed from Boston on American Flight 11. He took control of the plane and crushed it into the North Tower at 8:46 a.m. One of Atta’s bags didn’t make it onto the plane. When officers looked into the bag, they found instructions for this horrific plan.

Osama Bin Laden

Osama bin Laden thought his religion was more than just a belief; he thought it was a type of life style. He thought that all Islamic people should come together and rise up in jihad, a holy war, to create a single Islamic state. In 1988, he formed a group called al-Qaida. Al-Qaida started in Saudi Arabia, but the government tried to keep Bin Laden quite. Saudi Arabia didn’t want to cause trouble. His first real attack on the world was a bombing in Aden Yemen. He bombed a hotel, and so after he fled Saudi Arabia because he didn’t want to get arrested. While Bin Laden was in Afghanistan, he trained Somali rebels. On September 11, 2001, Bin Laden set suicide bombers to hijack airplanes and crash them into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. After this major attack, he went into hiding. In August 2010, US Navy SEALs found him hiding in his compound and killed him.

Mayor Rudolph Giuliani

As mayor of New York City, Giuliani had cut crime rates in half and murder rates by 67%. When the World Trade Center was hit, he rushed quickly to the scene. He took control of rescue and recovery efforts. He considered New York his home, and he wanted to do whatever he could to protect it. He awarded “Person of the Year” for his heroic attempts.
