Suddam was a very powerful, and evil person. He had plans of taking over others countries and trying to become more powerful. He had WMDs (Weapons of Mass Destruction) and in the hands of the wrong person, these can be very life threatening to meany people around the world. So, the United States felt obligated that it was there duty to remove him from power.

The Middle East is a major oil supplier to the entire world, especially the United States. Although the US wanted to ensure their oil supplier, they also knew that other countries needed it too. If the oil supply was cut off it could be very bad for the US and many other places around the world, which is why this was a priority.
